Jesus Well Project
Never Thirst Again
The Evangelical Church of India (ECI) expressed gratitude to Mercy, inc., to provide for the building of 10 wells in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. $20,000 is being provided and 6 wells have been completed with four of them completed in August in the villages of Kavangarai, Raninagar, Ariyalur and also the ECI Headquarters.
Rev. Sowrirajan recently took charge of the ECI church in Kavangarai. By God’s grace this church is growing rapidly. Due to water in the area being scarce, the pastor made a request to ECI for a well. ECI then contacted Mercy which provided the funds to build a 150 foot deep well that now benefits the church and community with an abundant supply of clean water.
Rev. Jeeva Stalin pastors the ECI church in Rani Anna Nagar. Planted by a church the Chennai Diocese, the church is in an urban slum of Chennai. About 25 families faithfully worship there and provide a tailoring school allowing women in the neighborhood learn a skill which can earn them an income. Most who live in Chennai struggle to obtain water in the summer. Mercy was able to help this church install a 200 foot deep well which provides water for people living nearby
The hot dry summer months makes water scarce in many places including the headquarters of the ECI where the Madras Theological Seminary and College are also located. There were two wells already in operation on campus but due to the large number of students and families living on campus, these wells could not keep up with demand. Mercy provided funds to allow ECI to install a third well, 250 foot deep, and it now services the water needs of the seminary.
Thomas, the pastor of the ECI church in Ariyalur, about a 6 hour drive from ECI headquarters, is a village that also lacks water resources. Through the help of Mercy they were able to dig a 250 foot well near the church building which now provides water for those nearby.
We thank God for His provisions.
Good News + Compassion
In addition to building the clean water wells, our team provides health education and Gospel presentations. The wells have improved the overall health in the villages, especially for the babies and children. What a blessing for people to have clean water close by instead of having to walk long distances, only to realize the water has many impurities and causes even when boiled.
For a gift of $2,200, you can provide the funds needed to drill a well and provide clean, life-sustaining water for a whole village. Any donation will contribute to the purchase of one well.
